Biography
The English Bass baritone Timothy Edlin started his musical education as a chorister in Canterbury Cathedral before continuing his studies at the University of Manchester and then at the Royal College of Music in London. He is a recent member of the OpernStudio NRW, with whom he performed principle roles in opera houses across North Rhine Westphalia including: Theater Dortmund, Aalto Theater Essen, Oper Wuppertal and Gelsenkirchen Musiktheater Im Revier.
Operatic roles include Il Sagrestano (Tosca) and Borella (Die Stumme von Portici) with Oper Dortmund; Sprecher and 2. Geharnischter (Die Zauberflöte), Antonio (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Araldo (Il Canto s’attrista, perché? by Salvatore Sciarrino) with Opera Wuppertal; Achilla (Giulio Cesare by Händel) and the title role from Paisiello’s Il Re Teodoro in Venezia with Gelsenkirchen MiR; Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for RCMIOS as well as Snug for Neville Holt Opera; Officer and Arthur (Peter Maxwell Davies’s The Lighthouse) and Badger/Priest (The Cunning Little Vixen) for RCMIOS; Il Re (Aridante) and Teobaldo (Faramondo) with The London Handel Festival; The Devil (Judith Weir’s The Vanishing Bridegroom) and Caliban (Jeremy Sams’ The Enchanted Island) with British Youth Opera, and also Colline (La Bohème) with Rye Arts Festival.
As a Concert performer Timothy has performed in numerous prestigious venues, including the Wigmore Hall, the Chapel of King’s College Cambridge as well as appearing live on Radio 3 from the BBC studios. Other highlights include performing Mauricio Kagel’s “Fürst Igor, Strawinsky” with players from the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Foyle Future First at the Royal Festival Hall, as part of their Stravinsky season in April 2018. He was also awarded 1st Prize in the Royal College of Music’s Concerto Competition, for which he returned in November 2019 to perform Mussorgsky’s “Songs and Dances of Death” (orch. Aho) under the baton of Sir Martyn Brabbins. Timothy is also an active song and lieder singer, featuring previously as a recital artist with performances as part of the Deal Festival and the Lichfield Festival.

Händel) und die Titelpartie aus Paisiellos Il Re Teodoro in Venezia am MiR Gelsenkirchen; Bottom (A Midsummer Night’s Dream von B. Britten) für RCMIOS sowie Snug für Neville Holt Opera; Officer and Arthur (The Lighthouse von P. M. Davies) und Dach/Priester (Das schlaue Füchslein von L. Janacek) für RCMIOS; Il Re (Aridante) und Teobaldo (Faramondo) mit The London Händel Festival; The Devil (Judith Weirs The Vanishing Bridegroom) und Caliban (Jeremy Sams’ The Enchanted Island) mit der British Youth Opera sowie Colline (La Bohème) mit dem Rye Arts Festival.
Als Konzertkünstler trat Timothy an zahlreichen prestigeträchtigen Orten auf, darunter in der Wigmore Hall, der Kapelle des King’s College Cambridge und trat live auf Radio 3 aus den BBC-Studios auf.
Weitere Höhepunkte sind die Aufführung von Mauricio Kagels „Fürst Igor, Strawinsky“ mit Spielern des London Philharmonic Orchestra und Foyle Future First in der Royal Festival Hall im Rahmen ihrer Strawinsky-Saison im April 2018. Außerdem wurde ihm der 1. Preis des Royal College of Music`s Concerto Competition verliehen. Hier kehrte er im November 2019 zurück, um Mussorgskys „Songs and Dances of Death“ (Orch. Aho) unter der Leitung von Sir Martyn Brabbins aufzuführen.
Timothy Edlin ist auch ein aktiver Liedsänger, hier zu nennen seine Auftritte als Recital-Künstler im Rahmen des Deal Festivals und des Lichfield Festivals.
